MORTASAY is the expression of an American musical duo, composed of married musicians Vonyse Reeder and Amy Lou Palmer. Formed in 2010 in Los Angeles, California, MORTASAY reflects an eclectic indie electronic soul sound. Or as Vonyse likes to call it Alter’d Native Soul. Their first fully collaborative album entitled, We Here, is scheduled for release this year.
Vonyse, an Indianapolis, Indiana native, and Amy Lou, a native of Eastern Washington State, consider themselves two city-bound country girls. “Our music reflects our musical roots, our activism, our spirituality, and our lives pre and post marriage. Growing up in different parts of America, both void of diversity, music is the throughline that has shaped how they perceive society and connected as a married couple. “It’s real, it’s raw, it’s bathed in our unique cultural experience, it’s us. We here!”
#Mortasay’s combined experiences:
“The worst thing you can do is censor yourself as the pencil hits the paper. You must not edit until you get it all on paper. If you can put everything down, stream-of-consciousness, you’ll do yourself a service.”
– Stephen Sondheim
